Alice in Wonderland is an American animated fantasy adventure film produced by Walt Disney Productions and based on the books Alice by Lewis Carroll. The 13th launch of Disney animated features, the film premiered in London on July 26, 1951, and in New York City on July 28, 1951. The film features Kathryn Beaumont as Alice, Sterling Holloway as Cheshire Cat, Verna Felton as Queen of Hearts , and Ed Wynn as Mad Hatter.

Walt Disney first tried unsuccessfully to adapt Alice into an animated feature film in the 1930s, and she revived the idea in the 1940s. The film was originally intended to be a live-action / animated film; However, Disney decided to make it an animated feature in 1946. The film was considered an early release, leading to Walt Disney showing it on television as one of the first episodes in its TV series Disneyland. It proved very successful on television, especially during the psychedelic era. It was eventually re-released in theaters that proved to be massively successful. The film became more successful through merchandising and subsequently home video broadcasts. The theme song of the same name has become the standard of jazz. Although the film was critically released at an early release, it has been considered one of Disney’s greatest animated classics, especially one of the largest cult classics in the animation medium, as well as one of Alice’s best film adaptations.

A direct adaptation of Carroll’s work and animated film, Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton, was released in 2010.
